Yummy sounding new recipe

by Mary Anne

This past Christmas I gave a crock pot and a crock pot recipe magazine to my youngest son. He had asked for them, and I was pleased that he has taken an interest in cooking and was glad to give them to him! He let me borrow the magazine to look at the recipes, and I found one that I thought I’d try this weekend. The recipe calls for chicken thighs, orange marmalade, chicken broth, teriyaki sauce, broccoli and carrots.

I’m not quite sure when I’ll be going grocery shopping next, but I’ve got all of the ingredients on the shopping list – I think it sounds yummy, don’t you? My hubby might even eat it if I promise him that there will be no onions in it!

Lemon and poppy seed muffins

by Mary Anne

When I woke up this morning, it was a wonderful surprise to smell the aroma of freshly baked lemon and poppy-seed muffins!  Last night I pulled out all of the pans, muffin liners, mix boxes, etc and left them on the counter, thinking that I would fix them this morning. My hubby got up early, saw all of the things on the counter, took took the hint and decided to make them for me!

What a guy!  He came into the bedroom with my cup of tea and told me to “come and get’em while they’re warm” so I’m gonna go grab one or two while they are still warm from the oven! Today is going to be a great day!

Hubby joined the local Elks Lodge

by Mary Anne

My hubby recently transferred his membership to the Elks Lodge from New England to the local Lodge where we live now.  He has only gone to two meetings so far, but has decided he wants to join the Lodge, and they have asked him to be their new exalted ruler. From what I understand, that is the top position in the lodge. He is very happy about that because he has been active in the Elks for many years and has always wanted to be the exalted ruler one day. He keeps talking about how now he can have that engraved on his tombstone. I’ve never really ever thought about what I would like to have on my tombstone. Probably something along the line of “I told you I didn’t feel well!” would suit mine. I think that whatever is on my tombstone should be heartfelt words from my hubby and kids. After all, they are the ones that would be looking at it, not me!

Alcoholic drinks

by Mary Anne

I have never been a big fan of alcoholic drinks.  I usually order the “virgin” version of pina coladas or frozen strawberry daiquiris when we go out to dinner.  However, it seems that every time I go to a social occasion, wine is being served.  Red wine gives me a headache, so I tend to avoid that.  When I was married to my first hubby, every wine we had was “dry” wine, which I don’t like at all, so I have pretty much avoided wines in general.  I have been talked into trying some of the sweet white wines, and I have to say that some of them are pretty good.  So now sometimes, when I go out to dinner at a restaurant, I might order a sweet white wine.  I’m still learning which ones are sweet!

Modern furniture gaining popularity

by Mary Anne

My hubby has suggested that the next time we shop for furniture, that we look at modern furniture.  He likes the clean look of the modern styles, and I have to admit that they look like they would be easier to keep clean when compared to many of the other styles of furniture.  When I look at modern furniture, it makes me think of Scandinavian countries, and of a Danish friend that I had when I was a child.
