When I found out that Charlie had gotten a guitar for Christmas, I immediately knew that I wanted to get him a guitar wall mount for his birthday next month. With all of the cats and dogs he has running around his house, I’m pretty sure that he is going to want to store the guitar up off of the floor to keep it protected from the dangers of a run-in with any of the four-legged critters.
Worn out clothes – the modern day
by Mary AnneNowadays it appears that many kids are too lazy to “earn” worn out clothes the old fashioned way by buying new clothes and then wearing them long enough and hard enough to get the “worn out” look the honest and old fashioned way. They want to go to the stores and buy clothes that look like they have already been worn out by someone who had class, who then donated the clothes to the homeless shelter, and when the homeless person died the clothes were then sent to a high priced retail store to be sold for $50- $80 to some rich spoiled kids who want to look like they had done something more than sit on their butts and spend their parent’s hard earned money on clothes that should be in the rag pile. You can buy clothes that look exactly like that at the Goodwill store for $2 or less!
I think that if parents allow their kids to spend their money in that way, they should be ashamed of themselves. What a waste of money, and what a terrible message to send to the kids – you don’t have to work hard to make it look like you worked hard. I think it is a form of “cheating” and I don’t like cheaters!
Time to replace the sofa
by Mary AnneI bought our sofa back in 1973, when I worked in a furniture store. It was a floor sample and marked down, and I needed a new sofa for my apartment, and bought it at a great employee discount on top of the floor sample price! It was a top of the line queen sized sleeper sofa, and it has served me well. I have had it reupholstered once since then, but it is showing signs of wear again. I really don’t want to reupholster it again; it was more expensive than buying a new one! But I hate to throw it away; maybe I’ll donate it to a local thrift store.
Bad dog!
by Mary AnneLast night while I was watching the news, I heard Riley tearing into something that sounded like paper. He was hiding under the kitchen table, happily opening the nicely wrapped gift box of tillman gloves that I had bought my hubby for a Christmas present. He had apparently found my stash of hidden gifts in the closet and decided that this one smelled yummy, and wanted a snack. Well, when Riley gets something like that to tear into, anyone who tries to get it from him ends up getting bitten. I had to get my son to help me get it from him, using a squirt bottle and a broom stick to subdue Riley into compliance. Fortunately we managed to get them away from him before he had ruined the gloves. I would have been very upset if I had to buy another pair!
Local wineries
by Mary AnneOne of the things that surprised me quite a bit when I moved here was the abundance of local wineries! It seems that almost every major road that I drive down has signs advertising local wineries. I had always been given the impression that the Napa Valley in California was “the place” to get good American wine.
Au contraire! The Gray Ghost winery in Amissville VA has wonderful wine! I had the opportunity to taste their 2006 Adieu wine at a wine tasting party that a friend held, and I fell in love with it. I had to go to the winery myself and buy a couple of bottles of it to have for special occasions.
After I learned about The Gray Ghost winery, I went on the Internet to find their location, and found their website. I was impressed to learn that they have won numerous awards for the wines. I think that the Gray Ghost is giving the Napa Valley some competition!
