I don’t like trains

by Mary Anne

I don’t like trains.  They are crowded, and noisy, and usually dirty.  I often can’t get a seat where I face forward, and I don’t like riding backwards.  I get motion sick quite easily on trains.

I used to date a man who loved trains.  I think in the end we broke up because he wanted to spend his every waking moment around/in/on a train, and he was neglecting our relationship just so he could be around trains.  So I think that is another big reason I don’t like trains!  Every time I see one, I am reminded of how I was dumped by the guy I was in love with for a train!

Air filter

by Mary Anne

My co-workers are allowed to smoke cigarettes at work, and the smoke in the air really bothers me a lot.  I don’t like coming home smelling like second hand smoke!  I really think it is a nasty smell.  So I am going to go on the Internet and look up air purifiers and try to buy one to bring to the office. If that doesn’t work, I may have to start looking for a new job.

Enough to give you an ulcer

by Mary Anne

I’ve been having some terrible migraine headaches over the past year, and even though the doctor has tried several different medications, the headaches seem to continue to get worse as time marches on. Last week he told me that I was going to have to buy nexium and take that twice a day to protect my stomach from the errosive effects of the migraine treatments. I had been using over the counter drugs like Rolaids and Tums for my heartburn, but they weren’t helping me as much as I needed. The doctor said that I actually have GERD, which can be dangerous if left untreated.

After doing a lot of research, I’ve been quite stymied over what I can eat, and what I should avoid. Apparently the foods that I should eat for my migraine headaches will give me heartburn, and the foods that I should eat for my heartburn can trigger my migraines. That’s a Catch 22 situation if I’ve ever heard of one! Thankfully my health insurance is really great, and my co-pay for everything so far has been very low. I know how much these things cost without insurance; if I didn’t have good health insurance I’d be tempted to try to buy Canada drugs to save money. I know a lot of people threaten to do just that, but I don’t know anyone personally that has actually done it. I buy my medicine through the mail order company my insurance mandates that I use.

Niece in the hospital

by Mary Anne

My niece was rushed to the emergency room yesterday morning, complaining of stomach and back pain.  Apparently it was a very busy day for the ER, as she waited over seven hours before they saw her.

They told her that she has an infected kidney and kidney stones, and have admitted her.  I don’t know a whole lot about kidney stones, I guess I’m going to have to do some research on that.  I DO remember that my father had kidney stones and that he was in a lot of pain.  I’ve heard that a man having kidney stones is the closest thing that he can experience to the pain of a woman in labor.  Maybe when I tell my niece that, she’ll decide to put off having babies for a while!

I am expecting a progress call later this morning, I hope it is good news.

Eyes

by Mary Anne

A few years ago my brother had his eyes “done” with Lasik, and he has been encouraging me to have my eyes “done.”  The biggest reason I haven’t had them “done” was the cost factor – my insurance won’t cover it.

However, with the thought in mind that my eyeglasses are getting more expensive every time I buy them, I have been giving serious thought to Lasik surgery, as I think that eventually the cost factor will end up being a mute point!
