Would you go if you had tickets given to you?

by Mary Anne

My hubby and I were offered a pair of cheap sports tickets to go to the Masters later this week, but we had to decline the offer. We had already made plans to entertain his daughter and her boyfriend when they were coming down here for a visit at the same time as the Masters. To be perfectly honest, I think that I’m just as happy staying home and watching the tournament on television than physically being there, but the biggest reason for that is I do not tolerate heat very well, and I do not enjoy standing on my feet for hours on end and being in crowds. I truly do understand how difficult it is to play golf, I have tried to play it a few times myself. There is a lot of practice and skill and athletic ability in playing that game. But when I am in a crowd, I find that I get very anxious, almost to the point of having a panic attack! I find myself having a memory “flash back” to the time that I was standing in line to see the Rolling Stones in concert on the 4th of July in 1972. The crowd got very restless and started shoving people. That scared me to no end; I thought that I was going to be crushed to death! Ever since then I’ve tried really hard to avoid crowds.

So, every time I watch a golf tournament on television it appears to me that there are crowds of fans stationed at different holes, standing around waiting to see one of the players walk by. Seems as if they are standing in the hot sun, and every now and then one of the members of the audience gets beaned by a stray golf ball. Good grief, that must hurt like a son-of-a-gun! I think that if the courses had some comfortable seats for the audience, with plenty of shade, big fans to move the air, and some food vendors nearby I’d consider going. But then again, you know what? I’d rather give the Masters tickets to a real diehard fan to enjoy the show while I sat in comfort at the nineteenth hole.

Wine and chocolate

by Mary Anne

When the Red Hat ladies club that I belong to and had a wine and chocolate party, I was very happy to be part of the group. We had several different types of wines, both red and white, ranging from very dry to very sweet. And we had an assortment of chocolates to choose from as well. It seemed to me that the dry wine was supposed to be paired with the dark chocolate, and the sweet wine was paired with the sweeter chocolates. I’ve never been a big fan of dark chocolate, and I’ve never been a big fan of dry wine, so I was being polite and sampling them all, but when we got to the white chocolate truffles and the dessert wines I was “all for it.” Our party’s organizer mentioned the www.wine.com website as a resource for people to learn more about wines. As for me, I’ve found that the tannins in red wine give me a headache, so I prefer the white wines. How about you?

Class warfare and big brother

by Mary Anne

Sometimes when I read a book that seems to be about class warfare, and about how the wealthy people keep the working classes under control, I start to wonder if any of these methods are actually being used in modern society. George Orwell’s book 1984, for example, speaks to “Big Brother” watching over everyone, spying on every body. Television shows that I watch on direct tv such as “Harry’s Law” speaks to traffic cameras and surveillance drones invading our privacy.

I have been trying to think of other television shows and movies that might be shown on dx3 direct tv that speak to that, and wonder if there might be a special network dedicated to “conspiracy theories.” There probably already IS a network like that, but I don’t know what kind of genre that would be considered. I don’t think Sci-Fi because there aren’t any aliens involved.

As the economy tightens, I find myself wishing that satellite television companies like www.dx3.net would provide more custom-fit packages to their customers. To be perfectly honest I watch very few channels, and I really would prefer to only pay for the channels that I actually watch. But it seems to me as if the companies keep increasing their prices and adding channels to the packages that I really don’t want.

Good friend’s daughter is getting married

by Mary Anne

One of my best friends, Sue, called me today.  She tells me that her twenty eight year old daughter is getting married!

She was beginning to wonder if she was EVER going to get married!

They want to have a medieval theme wedding.  They love going to Renaissance Fairs.  They will be planning their wedding around the medieval theme as much as possible.   I guess I’ll be sewing a medieval costume!  Good thing I love to sew!

They are planning to have their wedding at Bull Run Castle in Aldie, Virginia.  The Bull Run Castle is a romantic bed and breakfast that they think they can rent for the wedding.  The Bull Run Castle is eight miles away from Dulles Airport, which should make it very convenient for their guests to fly in from the four corners of the world.  They are going to have the wedding reception the next day at the Medieval Times Restaurant in nearby Hanover Maryland.  The Medieval Times Restaurant has a very entertaining show that is included with dinner.  The bride and groom are asking their guests to dress in medieval costume if possible.

I’m totally losing it!

by Mary Anne

I have to say that I am totally losing it!

My hubby and I were eating dinner a few nights ago, and he had the NASCAR races on.  I’m not interested in NASCAR, but he is totally into it.

They showed a commercial that I know was a SuperBowl commercial, and I knew I liked it.  I’ve seen it once before.  It was the Budweiser commercial where Hank the horse was rejected for the wagon team and worked out for a year with a dalmation to become a member of the team for the next year.

Now for how I know I’m losing it – the commercial gave me goosebumps and brought tears to my eyes!  LOLOL!
