Annoying Husband

by Mary Anne

This guest post from Doris Dillon

Moving caused so many problems between my husband and I. He was the one who wanted to move to a bigger house. I agreed to move, but I told him he would have to do most of the work. He said that was fine, and then he did not help with the work at all. After the paperwork was signed for the new house, he backed off completely. I was so mad at him throughout the whole process. I did almost everything, and that is a lot of work when you are moving a family of four. He gave himself a big pat on the back for going to http://www.wildbluedeals.com/ and connecting our satellite internet. I know that took all of 10 minutes, and he gloated about what a great job he did afterwards. His behavior made me want to rip his head off. I try to be patient with him because I knew he was like this when I married him, but over the years his attitude has either gotten worse, or has started to annoy me more.

What kind of job should the kids be training for?

by Mary Anne

One of the most difficult questions a kid can ask their parent is “What kind of job should I be working towards getting when I get out of school?”

I’ve heard that question several times from my kids, and it is a tough one.  I want them to be ultimately happy with the work that they do, but they also need to earn enough money to pay their bills!  And in today’s global market, and the new technologies that are already out there, and being developed, technology seems to be the key to the answer.

My advice has always been for them to think about their favorite subject in school and then talk to their teacher about what professions there are that use that knowledge from the class. What do YOU tell your kids?

Draperies

Zebra stripe fabric

Zebra stripe upholstery fabric

I was looking for some p kaufmann upholstery fabric that would go well with Matt and Carla’s jungle theme living room. Their draperies have monkeys on them, and I was hoping to find a similar theme. So far I haven’t been able to find what I was looking for, but I did see some zebra fabric that reminded me of the draperies and bed spread that I had sewn for my bedroom when I was a teenager. Sure brought back some memories!

Pest control

by Mary Anne

When we first moved into this house we were getting a lot of “welcome new neighbor” junk mail. We also got a “moving kit” from the Post Office. It was nice get things like that to help us settle into our new place, but I still think that the old fashioned “Welcome Wagon” visits of days gone by would have been really a lot nicer. One of the things that I wanted to do right away was get a pest control service to come out and spray the house. Even though the house had not been lived in for a couple of years, I wanted to evict any and all little insects that might have settled in. There were a couple of local pest control services that sent us post cards inviting us to call them for an appointment to come out and treat our house, but even though we called them five or six times they never answered their phones, and never returned our voice mail messages.

So in frustration I asked Marcia (our new next door neighbor) for her recommendation on who to call. She emailed me the URL www.pestcontrol.us and told me that if I wanted the Terminix company that maybe I should try filling out their contact form. I figured, why not, I’ve got nothing to lose. Maybe the message will go to a central location and then get distributed and followed up that way. I can’t wait to get someone out here – we seem to have some stinkbugs and some wolf spiders that like it here, and I want them gone!

Flowers online

by Mary Anne

Have you ever had the occasion to buy flower online? The first time I did that was last September when I found out that my mother was in the hospital. She had been having chest pains and went to the emergency room. They found some blood clots in her lungs and admitted her. The pumped her full of blood thinner and kept her there for several days.

When I found out that she was in the hospital I wanted to go right away and visit with her, and be her patient advocate but she is a proud and stubborn woman and refused to allow anyone to come be with her.So I went online and arranged to send flowers with a “Get well soon” balloon attached to her room. I called her on the telephone every day to let her know that I was concerned about her and to just try to keep her cheered up a little bit.

Being alone in a hospital room can get very depressing; I wanted to keep her spirits up. She acted like she really didn’t want anyone to care, but everyone in the family was quite concerned about her health. She is getting on in years and we all know that she won’t be here forever. Blood clots in the lungs can be a very serious thing.
