There is a networking meeting that I go to every week where a lot of businesses send a representative to the meeting to try to drum up business for their company. One thing that I’ve noticed is that a lot of the people that go to the meetings really don’t seem to be interested in helping each other out at all, which is a little bit disappointing because the entire concept of a networking meeting is to help each other, right?

What’s even more disappointing is the fact that some of the people that go to the meetings seem to claim that they will give you a free offer of some kind, in order to drum up business for themselves, but when you contact them and ask them to do it, they don’t even call you back! For example, there is a guy there that is a home insulation contractor that goes every week and will stand up and tell people that his company will perform a free energy audit and he hands out business cards with the web page address of his company, saying that they have a list of energy saving solutions on their web site, but when I tell him that I want to schedule an audit for my house he never gets back to me! I have even gone to his web page and filled out the request form and they don’t get back to me! Is that any way to run a business?

More and more I have been wondering why is it that many fashion designers appear to hate women? I’m not referring to sexual preference in the romance department, I am talking about how ugly so many of the “new” fashions are. By now it should be fairly obvious and well known that horizontal stripes make a person look fatter than they really are. So why, then, are so many clothes that are for extra-large people available only in horizontal stripe patterns? For example, I enjoy going to different discount websites and take advantage of some of the savings that are offered there. Some of the products are great, and I’m glad that I have bought them. But some of them are mind-boggling ugly as – well I can’t really think of a good description of ugly that I can type on my blog and keep it family oriented!

For example, this morning I saw a “fantastic deal” on this jumpsuit. Hopefully the photograph that I’m including will show up. I just can’t imagine how anyone in their right mind would find this jumpsuit appealing, and yet according to the website, the jumpsuit is sold out. I’m wondering if it was sold out because a lot of men that have no taste whatsoever thought that they would buy this as a Mother’s Day gift for their wife, hoping that the wife would be thrilled to pieces. I pray that my hubby has enough sense to never buy anything like this for me! The horizontal stripes on this would make my legs look so fat, and the entire rest of my body too! What do you think about this? Would YOU like to wear something like this?

As we walked through the building, Tim introduced me to some of his business associates, and we wandered over to the tables full of food and beverages. I recognized the serving ware from the last social networking event we had gone to and I mentioned to Tim that it was the same stuff as before. He said that the organization supplied that kind of items to the events, that they could get them wholesale through a Hotel Product Supplies & Catering Supplies company’s website.

Well, ever since I worked for a Hotel Bathroom Supplies & Restaurant Supply Company myself back in 1972 and 1973 I have had an interest in where people can go to get those types of supplies at a wholesale price. The place that I worked at did not advertise that they would sell their products to walk-in customers, but people walked in just the same and bought things from the company.

I decided to try to look up the company I used to work for on the Internet, and I couldn’t find them online. I wonder if they’ve gone out of business! I did, however find the website of the PeachSuite Wholesale Hotel Supply & Restaurant Equipment Company and found myself spending quite a long time looking at the different flatware and stemware and thinking about how even after all of these years I am still using the same flatware that I bought back in 1972 from the company that I worked for. I’d say that was a good investment, wouldn’t you agree?

Why would he need to use my computer for that? He told me that his roommates had neglected to pay for their Internet bill so the Internet has been shut off. I told him to just tell me what he needed ordered and I’d do it for him. I don’t like letting other people on my computer – I like to think that I can trust other people, but you never know in this day and age what other web pages other people might get onto and the viruses that they might accidentally let into the system. I’d rather do it for him, just to be safe.

Picking a web hosting company when you are using joomla CMS is not as difficult as you might think it could be. I have been reading a little bit about joomla, and have been trying to decide if I want to use joomla in the future, or stick with WordPress. One of the things to consider when making a decision like that is which hosting company supports joomla. According to the joomla website, the hostgator joomla web hosting service appears to be the most reasonably priced service.

One drawback to having so much rain is that mildew and fungus are flourishing. My yard has several different types of mushrooms sprouting in different places. I doubt that any of these mushrooms are edible, but I have never really done any research on mushrooms. I wonder if there are any good online sources to find out about the different types of mushrooms and which ones are edible?

Author: Joseph Sandoval

I hang out at this cool coffee shop in my neighborhood where locals always gather. I set up my computer and they have free wireless internet, so I can get a lot done while I people watch and drink coffee. I usually go there when I am bored and at home alone. It’s so nice to get out of the house sometimes and watch what other people are up to. I try not to be too nosy, but I hear some very interesting conversations. One day when I was just hanging out, the couple at the table next to me was in the process of breaking up. The girl was yelling pretty loud at the guy, and he was quiet and looked mortified. I felt bad for both of them, but it was pretty entertaining. Other days I end up at a table next to people at a business meeting, or a couple of friends who haven’t seen each other in a long time. I feel like I get a little window into their lives, and I have a good time.

Acne appears to be a lifelong struggle for the human race!

According to the website www.acne.com there are six different types of acne. There are two types of non-inflammatory acne, and four types of inflammatory acne.

This website is a vast storage vessel of information about what causes acne, what DOESN’T cause acne, acne prevention, and offers some treatment options, one of which is the well-known Proactive product. I was interested to see that none of the treatment options given included toothpaste, which actually is my favorite treatment!

When I was a teenager, my parents always told me that eating pizza, and french fries, and chocolate were to blame for my acne. That was even accepted “common knowledge” and was published in local newspapers at the time.

Modern medicine debunks that theory and says that none of those foods cause acne. There is an interesting article about that on the acne.com website. Having said that, I find that every single time that I eat a piece of chocolate, the very next day I get a pimple!

My British cousin tells me that she uses a website at workbidder.co.uk to help her find the kinds of services that she needs. From Handymen, Au Pairs, Beauticians, Gardeners, Artists, Teachers, and Typists, the website helps the homeowners find the people that provides the services.

I looked at the website, and it looks like a great service! I’ll have to see if there is a similar one for the USA! Hmmm… maybe Angie’s list?

One of the most useful ways that software and technology can be used by a nursing home to help keep a lid on overtime expenses is with nursing home scheduling software. Over the past several years I’ve been asked by clients and family and friends to help them with transactions related to nursing homes. One client had me keep tabs on the nursing home bills for his elderly mother. I had to sort through them, send some of them to various insurance companies, authorize payment of others through a trust checking account, and weed out the duplicate copies that were mailed out. It was amazing how many duplicate copies of charges were being sent out by the nursing home. I don’t know if they had a problem with their invoicing system or if they were trying to fleece my client, but I had to pour over a lot of paperwork and challenge a lot of duplicate charges!

One of the things that really shocked me was the charge on the bills for a simple beauty salon visit by his mother – the charge was $300 for a beauty salon visit! And the woman went to the beauty salon twice a month! I remember bringing that charge to the attention of my client, and he said he was aware of it and the charge was right. I just cannot even imagine having enough money to pay $300 twice a month to have my hair done! All I can say is that it must be nice to be able to afford such an expensive nursing home!

If and when I find myself in the position of having to help my own mother find a nursing home, I’m sorry to say that we will not be able to afford such a nice place that we can give her a beauty salon appointment twice a month for $300. We will have to find one that takes good care of the patients, but keeps costs as reasonable as possible. One way that technology can help with that is with the use of nurse staffing software to ensure that there are enough nurses on duty all of the time. I don’t want to send her to a place that neglects their patients because they are understaffed.

This guest post from Doris Dillon

Moving caused so many problems between my husband and I. He was the one who wanted to move to a bigger house. I agreed to move, but I told him he would have to do most of the work. He said that was fine, and then he did not help with the work at all. After the paperwork was signed for the new house, he backed off completely. I was so mad at him throughout the whole process. I did almost everything, and that is a lot of work when you are moving a family of four. He gave himself a big pat on the back for going to http://www.wildbluedeals.com/ and connecting our satellite internet. I know that took all of 10 minutes, and he gloated about what a great job he did afterwards. His behavior made me want to rip his head off. I try to be patient with him because I knew he was like this when I married him, but over the years his attitude has either gotten worse, or has started to annoy me more.

One of the most difficult questions a kid can ask their parent is “What kind of job should I be working towards getting when I get out of school?”

I’ve heard that question several times from my kids, and it is a tough one. I want them to be ultimately happy with the work that they do, but they also need to earn enough money to pay their bills! And in today’s global market, and the new technologies that are already out there, and being developed, technology seems to be the key to the answer.

My advice has always been for them to think about their favorite subject in school and then talk to their teacher about what professions there are that use that knowledge from the class. What do YOU tell your kids?

Their draperies have monkeys on them, and I was hoping to find a similar theme. So far I haven’t been able to find what I was looking for, but I did see some zebra fabric that reminded me of the draperies and bed spread that I had sewn for my bedroom when I was a teenager. Sure brought back some memories!

When we first moved into this house we were getting a lot of “welcome new neighbor” junk mail. We also got a “moving kit” from the Post Office. It was nice get things like that to help us settle into our new place, but I still think that the old fashioned “Welcome Wagon” visits of days gone by would have been really a lot nicer. One of the things that I wanted to do right away was get a pest control service to come out and spray the house. Even though the house had not been lived in for a couple of years, I wanted to evict any and all little insects that might have settled in. There were a couple of local pest control services that sent us post cards inviting us to call them for an appointment to come out and treat our house, but even though we called them five or six times they never answered their phones, and never returned our voice mail messages.

So in frustration I asked Marcia (our new next door neighbor) for her recommendation on who to call. She emailed me the URL www.pestcontrol.us and told me that if I wanted the Terminix company that maybe I should try filling out their contact form. I figured, why not, I’ve got nothing to lose. Maybe the message will go to a central location and then get distributed and followed up that way. I can’t wait to get someone out here – we seem to have some stinkbugs and some wolf spiders that like it here, and I want them gone!

Have you ever had the occasion to buy flower online? The first time I did that was last September when I found out that my mother was in the hospital. She had been having chest pains and went to the emergency room. They found some blood clots in her lungs and admitted her. The pumped her full of blood thinner and kept her there for several days.

When I found out that she was in the hospital I wanted to go right away and visit with her, and be her patient advocate but she is a proud and stubborn woman and refused to allow anyone to come be with her.So I went online and arranged to send flowers with a “Get well soon” balloon attached to her room. I called her on the telephone every day to let her know that I was concerned about her and to just try to keep her cheered up a little bit.

Being alone in a hospital room can get very depressing; I wanted to keep her spirits up. She acted like she really didn’t want anyone to care, but everyone in the family was quite concerned about her health. She is getting on in years and we all know that she won’t be here forever. Blood clots in the lungs can be a very serious thing.
