The publishers of Stuff – a leading magazine dedicated to reviewing gadgets – have created a website that is also dedicated to reviewing gadgets. So now everyone that is interested in learning more about the existing, or upcoming gadgets out there in the world of commerce has a place to turn when they want to learn more about them. They cover just about everything you can imagine in the gadgetry world, leaning heavily on the electronics such as digital cameras, cell phones, televisions, and computers (just to name a few!)

The website has lots of different sections that you can go to. My two favorite links on the website are the Top Tens and the Reviews pages. In addition to those links, it has blogs, news, videos, and it has forums. It even has contests to win prizes; the only hitch is that you have to register as a user of the website. That’s shouldn’t be a problem, registration is free!

The article written by Alonso Kramer

I was trying to use thewww.texaselectricityproviders.com/ website to figure out what the best options were for my energy utilities. I really need something I can rely on. At my one of my old houses, we had some problems with the provider. My husband and I always felt like we were being overcharged and it seemed like the electricity would cut out randomly for what seemed like no reason. We both decided we really wanted to do our research for the next house and avoid the same problem. We are set to move into our new house next month. We are both really excited. It is a lot bigger and a lot nicer than our first house together. However, since it is so big, I am a bit concerned about the price of our utilities and if we can handle it. My husband told me that he really thinks we will be fine. I just get a bit concerned because electricity is essential. I do not want to be strained for money so making the decision for the most cost-efficient and reliable source would be ideal for me right now.

A lot of people tell me that maintenance/extended warranty plans are a gimmick and a waste of money, but I have found that when I pay for when, I usually end up using the service and it ends up paying for itself several times over. In this day and age of “planned obsolescence” I find that most products die within a week of the warranty period being over! So, I buy the maintenance/extended warranty if it is available and the item is expensive.

When I listen to the news about how the U.S. Postal service is struggling to stay afloat, I think about all of the competition that it faces – the UPS and Fed Ex are the largest competitors for packages, and for letters and documents the competitors are fax machines and the World Wide Web. People nowadays have a lot of options to choose from when it comes to delivery services. Sometimes I start to wonder if actually putting mail in our residential mailboxes might become a thing of the past.

I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if home delivery of the mail was cut down to only a couple of days a week, or even eliminated completely in favor of people having to pick up their mail in a central location like cluster mailboxes at the intersections of their roads, or like commercial mailboxes in a post office or a general store, like in the old days when the post office was just delivering mail by pony express. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that we would revert back to ponies, just that the mail delivery would end at the posts office and people would have to come get it from there.

For years I have been “making do” with hand-me-down office furniture in my home office. Nothing is ergonomic, nothing looks nice. In fact, it looks horrible! I have a very old student desk that I was given when I was in 3rd grade that I put an old wooden desk top on top of that I use to put my computer on. My printer is on a plastic shelving unit beside that desk. My chair is an old bar stool with casters on it. Nothing about it is comfortable at all!

I would like to buy new office furniture to set up my home office, I’m sure that I would be a lot more productive if I was comfortable!

My sister called me last night and told me that her old computer has died, and wants my help in finding and buying a new one. I told her that I’d try to help her, but I am not sure that I have the expertise that she really is hoping that I have! I asked her if she wants a new desktop computer or a laptop computer. I think it’s important to know that right off of the bat. She replied that she wants a new desktop, because her laptop is fine but she really prefers having the really nice large screen and spacious keyboard and mouse when she is working at home.

Then I asked her if she was going to be using it as a gaming computer or using it as a media center computer. She said it really was not something that she had thought about, but she really expected to just use it for “regular stuff” like word processing and Internet browsing and doing a few graphics applications. So I suggested that she look a the workhorse computers for what type she wants, and suggested that she check out the shopwiki.com website for the best deals.

One of the things that seems to be effecting everyone I know is how this challenging economy is ruining their credit ratings. Many people are defaulting on loans and credit cards because they have lost their jobs, or had to take pay cuts. Fortunately there is a plethora of useful information online about how to rebuild your credit fast to minimize the consequences of bad credit. In addition to the free information about how to rebuild credit fast there are a lot of businesses available who provide credit repair services available to the consumer.

Figuring out which is the best credit repair service can be problematic, however. I think that if I felt the need to get professional help with that situation I would probably go to my local bank and talk with my friend Katie to ask her where to start. She’s been my personal banker for the past two years and I have confidence that she would steer me in the right direction.

For years I have resisted going paperless. I’ve wanted paper credit card statements in my hand to make it easier to reconcile the statements, and I did not want to have to use my own printer ink and paper to print them off. But I’ve noticed that my home office is drowning in paper, and I’m seriously considering checking out some paperless office software. Sometimes I feel a little bit old-fashioned in my desire for permanent hard copies of everything, but since I’ve been working with computers since the very first personal computer came out on the market I’m a little bit gun shy over the losses that can happen when something crashes. For example just yesterday when I downloaded photos from my digital camera and then was trying to modify and save the changes. The program crashed and during the crashing it deleted the entire photo. Gone, forever, never to be recovered or seen anywhere again. So I’m a little bit gun-shy, do you know what I mean?

One of the things that I like about the advancement of the Information Age is how it allows more people to be able to work from home instead of having to commute several hours a day. Sadly many people don’t have the skills they need to be able to do that, and still others live in an area where the Information Age is still trying to reach them. I find it surprising whenever I meet a neighbor that tells me that they cannot get fast Internet where they live!

One of the companies that employs people who have access to the Internet, and copy writing skills is the triangle direct company. This company assists businesses to market their businesses on the Internet, and one of the ways it does that is by hiring people who can write for them without even leaving their houses! Can you imagine being able to make your living by staying home and typing on the computer without even having to change out of your pajamas? Sounds great to me!

Have you noticed that the vast majority of “Help Wanted Ads” in the newspaper are about IT jobs? That completely amazes me, and it scares me too. When I was in college I took a lot of business courses, and one of them was a computer programming course. That computer programming course was the hardest course I had ever taken! That was the first and only college course that I took where I ended up getting a student tutor to help me study.

I flunked every test, even though they were open book take-home tests and I worked on them for hours on end. I can remember thinking that if the IT jobs of the future depended on learning how to program computers, then I was never going to survive out there! I think that the only reason that the professor gave me a passing grade was because I went begging to him not to flunk me and promised him that I would never ever try to get any IT jobs now or in the future. I think I’m in trouble!

My sister is the one who got me started with blogging. I can remember several years ago when we were talking on the phone she mentioned that she had been reading some blogs on the Internet that she thought I’d enjoy reading. I told her to send me the links to the blogs, and I read them too. At that point I became interested in blogging as well. She set me up with my domain name and signed me up with a web hosting company, and I reimbursed her through paypal.

I was like a babe in the woods back then; I had no idea how to arrange for a domain or website hosting – in fact I did not even realize that you could buy a domain from one organization and then get your web site hosting from a completely different company! I thought it was a big monopoly, like the telephone company used to be! Slowly I’m learning more about the Internet business, but it sure is a lot more complicated than I could ever imagine it to be. The people who created this stuff are pure genius. Absolute genius.

I’ve been having some terrible migraine headaches over the past year, and even though the doctor has tried several different medications, the headaches seem to continue to get worse as time marches on. Last week he told me that I was going to have to buy nexium and take that twice a day to protect my stomach from the errosive effects of the migraine treatments. I had been using over the counter drugs like Rolaids and Tums for my heartburn, but they weren’t helping me as much as I needed. The doctor said that I actually have GERD, which can be dangerous if left untreated.

After doing a lot of research, I’ve been quite stymied over what I can eat, and what I should avoid. Apparently the foods that I should eat for my migraine headaches will give me heartburn, and the foods that I should eat for my heartburn can trigger my migraines. That’s a Catch 22 situation if I’ve ever heard of one! Thankfully my health insurance is really great, and my co-pay for everything so far has been very low. I know how much these things cost without insurance; if I didn’t have good health insurance I’d be tempted to try to buy Canada drugs to save money. I know a lot of people threaten to do just that, but I don’t know anyone personally that has actually done it. I buy my medicine through the mail order company my insurance mandates that I use.

If I recall correctly, October is fire safety awareness month. At least it used to be! I can remember when I was a child in elementary school the teacher had her students print letters to Smokey the Bear in October, and we would be so excited when we got answers from him!

I found myself thinking about that when I was doing a CBT today at work about the proper storage and disposal of different materials. To be perfectly honest, I never even gave it a second thought about how there might be chemicals at work that would need to be stored in flammable lockers.

When I stop to think about how many liquids and solvents are flammable, I’m amazed that there isn’t some kind of building code that requires every house to have Flammable Cabinets in their garages and pantries!

I wonder how many house fires would be prevented if the homeowners kept their flammable liquids in the proper Flammable Cabinet Storage.

Every couple of months I’ll buy a magazine that has headlines that catch my eye, like how to save hundreds of dollars on groceries, and/or how to make money at home. I’m always hopeful that I’ll learn something that I don’t already know and that new knowledge will make our lives here at home a lot easier.

I just bought a magazine like that this past weekend. This magazine was promising both of those stories. Usually I spend a couple of minutes in the check out line skimming the articles to see if the magazine is any good or not, but this time I didn’t have the time to do that. The article about saving money on food was the same-old-same-old advice; use coupons, shop sales, buy store brand. I have a word of caution here – I don’t always buy the store brand because it is not always cheaper! I needed to buy some Truvia this past weekend and saw that there is a store brand of it, but the price was higher per unit.

As for making money at home, the article suggested that people look into using the Internet to make money. Specifically the article was talking about bloggers putting paid advertising on their blogs. I went to the Internet to get more information about that and found the bizzclick Home page and looked at the Advertiser page and the Publisher page and soon realized that if I depended on pay-per-click income that I’d starve to death under a bridge somewhere. I know my brother makes money doing that, and more power to him!

I love to shop with coupons! When I bought my Roomba vacuum I used a coupon that was in the Sunday paper for 20% off any one item. Since the Roomba was about $300, I saved about $60, which is a lot of money (both to spend and to save!) But I am thinking the purchase will be worth it because right now I could use the help with the house cleaning!

Today I went grocery shopping and saved $20 on the items that we bought. These items were things that we actually use everyday. I’m so glad that I can save money that way.
