Maybe it IS illegal, I don’t know, but I have noticed that many residents that mow their properties are mowing it such that the grass clippings are being blown onto the road pavement, where it turns into a dangerous slippery mess that could wipe out any unsuspected hapless motorcycle rider that is unfortunate enough to be having to drive on that road! I can’t believe that so many people are doing that! Every day when I drive down the road I see grass clippings on the road, and it bothers me a lot; especially now that my hubby owns a motorcycle!

My hubby told me that he was going to spend the weekend helping me get the house ready for expected company that is coming next weekend. He was going to dust the ceiling fans, dust the top of the refrigerator, do a few minor repairs here and there, install some timer switches on the bathroom exhaust fans, and help pick up the clutter.

Well, he ended up getting a phone call from my brother yesterday morning saying “I’m riding to Richmond on my Harley, want to come join me on your Harley?” Well, hubby was out of here like a shot and didn’t come back until about 9pm. They got caught in a severe thunderstorm on the way home and had to wait it out under a bridge for about an hour, but they seemed to have a good time overall.

I thought it was funny because my hubby swears he will never ride in the rain, and will never ride if rain is forecast, but the forecast yesterday said only a 10% chance of rain, so he went. Now he says he won’t ride if it is even a 10% chance of rain. I told him that there is ALWAYS a chance of rain, so he ought to just buy himself a rain suit and some motorcycle bags and be prepared!

I was sitting in a doctor’s office Thursday, reading a very old Time magazine dated March 24, 2008. There was a very intriguing article about how a scientist named Blen Kertz from Vertigro Energy is developing a way to turn algae into biodiesel fuel that can be burned by cars, trucks, and airplanes. According to the article, if this process is pursued we could develope enough fuel from algae to meet the transportation needs of the entire United States! Wouldn’t that be WONDERFUL! I found an article on the Internet regarding the same story, you can read it by clicking here. They also have a video about it, you can watch that by clicking here.

When we bought my Lumina I told my hubby that one of the first things I wanted to buy for it was a quality sun shield for the windshield. I bought a “universal” sun shield at my local big box discount department store but it does not fit well and keeps falling down. But this week I finally smartened up and realized that I can not just put my visors down to help keep it in place, but I can take them out of their little holder brackets and put them down at an angle, and that works perfectly!

With the economy the way it is today, I want to make absolutely sure that I am getting the best value for my hard earned dollar when I have to spend it. This applies to every aspect of my daily life, from groceries, to clothes and shoes, laundry supplies, to home improvement, and even to work on my car. That means that I am spending the extra time to research the credentials of everyone and everything that I possibly can. Was it Ben Franklin who said “A penny saved is a penny earned”? Well, I’m not earning enough pennies, that is for sure, so I need to save all those I can get my hands on!

With Hurricane Ike bearing down on the Gulf Coast, the price of gas is going up again. It seems lately that any and everything seems to be an excuse to raise the price of gas! I understand that there is concern that the refineries might be damaged and that will cause an oil/gas shortage. I sure wish that “we” (and by “we” I mean this country) would aggressively pursue finding other sources of energy so we could end our dependency on fossil fuels forever! I think that what the American consumer is going through over gasoline prices is simply highway robbery!

My hubby was looking at my car a few days ago and declared that we need to take it to an auto body shop to have the roof repaired. He said that they were going to have to remove the windshield and cut away part of the roof due to rusting. He has done a lot of auto body work himself, and said he was not comfortable doing this himself; he wanted to let the experts handle this job. We’ll be looking for one of the Collision Repair Experts companies to do the work; we’ve heard that they are the best in the business.

On my way home from work I had a flat tire. I was glad it was on the way home from work, and not on the way TO work, as it would have made me late for work and the office has a pretty tough “tardy” policy. (Note to self – look for a new job, these people are not very nice!)

I was very glad that I have AAA insurance for just this kind of thing, I used my cell phone to call them and they sent a truck out with a guy to change my tire. I’m really glad my spare was good! So tomorrow I have to take my old tire to the tire shop and see if it can be repaired, or if I will need a new one. The guy who changed my tire seemed to think I was going to need a new one, and I suspect he’s right. If it isn’t one thing, it’s another! Money doesn’t seem to sit in my bank account very long!

The economy worries me more than I’d like to admit. According to the news programs that I watch and the Internet news sites that I read, the ever increasing gasoline prices, the increasing food prices, the floods in Iowa are going to result in HIGHER food prices, the price of milk will be going up to $6.00 gallon soon and the higher unemployment rates all spell bad times ahead. We’re already in bad times; I hate to think of them getting much worse. I hope that when the Presidential election is over and done with the economy will recover.
