I appreciate the fact that Wal-Mart has those motorized carts available for the people with disabilities, I really do. In recent months, my hubby has been shopping with me on mornings, and he utilizes those carts when he comes with me. He needs one to get around such a large store.

We are early birds; we get up around 4 – 5 am every morning. We have a Wal-Mart that is open 24/7, so we try to get our shopping done really early in the morning before the crowds hit.

We were sorely disappointed yesterday when we arrived at our Wal-Mart around 7am and found that we could not even get to the motorized carts; they were blocked by one of those machines that they use in the parking lots to retrieve the regular shopping carts. It took me over ten minutes to find an employee that was willing to move that thing out of our way.

Once that was done, we found that only one of the motorized carts had been plugged in and charged overnight, and it was blocked in by all of the carts that had no charge at all and could not be moved easily. We could not find an employee to move the “dead” carts out of the way, so my hubby and I were forced to try to drag the “dead” carts by ourselves to get to the “live” cart.

Very frustrating, very disappointing.

My kids know that I love trash to treasure crafts, so when they found a really interesting book about using empty soda bottles to make jewelry, they bought it for me for a great Mother’s Day gift. The name of the book is Magical Butterflies by Donna Manchester. She gives directions (and lots of pictures) on how to use empty plastic soda bottles, paint, wire and beads to make really gorgeous pins. I think that I already have most of the supplies to make some of them myself. I’m looking forward to giving it a try!

I don’t know about you, but I get so tired of all of the junk mail that I get almost every day. What irritates me even more is all of the resources that are wasted producing and delivering the junk mail! When I get junk mail, sometimes I shred it, sometimes I just toss it in the trash. Sometimes, if it has a postage-paid return envelope in it I will tear up everything except the postage-paid return envelope, put it all inside the postage-paid return envelope and mail it back to the company that sent it to me.

I think that the US Post Office continues to raise the rates of stamps because they are not getting enough work (competing with Email, UPS, FedEx, etc) so this is a relatively painless way to give them more work at the expense of some other company! So, it is creating a little bit of job security for the Post Office workers, and some job security for the people who end up opening the envelope at the company it is going to! And, hopefully, their company recycles (most big companies do) so maybe the papers will get recycled there instead of filling up the junk yards in the local municipalities!

This past Christmas I gave a crock pot and a crock pot recipe magazine to my youngest son. He had asked for them, and I was pleased that he has taken an interest in cooking and was glad to give them to him! He let me borrow the magazine to look at the recipes, and I found one that I thought I’d try this weekend. The recipe calls for chicken thighs, orange marmalade, chicken broth, teriyaki sauce, broccoli and carrots.

I’m not quite sure when I’ll be going grocery shopping next, but I’ve got all of the ingredients on the shopping list – I think it sounds yummy, don’t you? My hubby might even eat it if I promise him that there will be no onions in it!

I think that grandfather clocks are the comfort food of home furnishings. Every house that I’ve been in that I felt welcome and at ease in always had a grandfather clock in the living room. There simply seems to be a feeling of warmth and comfort that I associate with the grandfather clocks.

My mother has a very handsome grandfather clock in her living room. The clock is standing in a corner, lonely and unused. The clock has been there for about the past twelve years now, a silent sentinel, quietly standing watch over the room.

I have told her that I feel bad that this gorgeous clock is not being used. She told me that the ticking sound “bothered her” so she stopped using it. I asked her if I could have the clock for MY living room because I have always found the ticking sound of a clock to be a comfort. I think that one of my other sisters will probably end up with it as an inheritance piece instead – she has always favored them.

My sister sent me a copy of her local newspaper, and there was a story in it about couple that has been charged with 84 counts of animal cruelty. According to the story the charges claim that they abandoned over a dozen dogs and other animals in their rented house when they moved out.

No one is sure exactly when the tenants vacated the home, but when authorities were notified by the landlord that they house appeared to be deserted with a large number of animals locked inside, the authorities discovered that the house was uninhabitable, had no furniture in it, and no food or water was left for the animals locked inside.

I hope that they throw the book at the perpetrators! People like that should not be allowed to own any kind of pets.

Lately everywhere I drive it appears that I am seeing rabbits running across the road. Last month the rabbits were still wearing their white winter coats, and now they have changed to their summer coats of brown. I am glad to see that their coats have changed, because we did not have a lot of snow last month, and their white coats made them “sitting ducks” for any critter out there that was looking for a meal. Now when I drive up to the house instead of seeing a large flash of white hopping across the yard, I see just a little bit of a white cotton tail hopping across the yard. Seeing rabbits or deer in my yard always bring a smile to my face, but it also makes me glad that I’m not a farmer trying to protect my crops from these cute little varmints!

They ran a promotion for their grand opening that the first 100 people in line at their door at 6am on their opening day would get free Chik-Fil-A food for an entire year.

My hubby didn’t know about that promotion, and he came home from running an errand and told me that he drove past the new Chik-Fil-A and was surprised to see people camping out in tents in the parking lot! I told him about the promotion and then he declared that he was surprised that I wasn’t one of the people camping out! I laughed at him, telling him that if I didn’t hate camping so much I would have been!

My job is a seasonal job that ends in early June, and my hubby has been told that he will be laid off of work in a few weeks, so we are both starting a job search together.

We have been spending a lot of time looking through the newspapers, and searching Internet job search engines.

I’ve seen postings of job fairs being held in the middle of the work week, which is a problem for both of us – we can’t take time off of the jobs we have now to go to a job fair!

I’ve been on a few job interviews, and have been told I’m “over-qualified” for the job. I think what they mean is “you’re too old.”

It is very discouraging, when you are approaching the retirement age, to be looking for work!

For the past couple of weeks I have been on the lookout for wisteria flowers being in bloom. I couldn’t remember exactly when they would start blooming. Today I noticed a lot of wisterias in bloom – it seems as if one day there was no sign of them, and now suddenly they look like they are in full bloom! When I was a kid, I don’t think that I noticed wisterias at all – but then again if it was not in my own back yard, I just didn’t notice it! Most of my adult life was spent in New England, and to be perfectly honest I don’t remember seeing any of them up there, either. But ever since we moved here, I am constantly aware of all of the beautiful bright blooming flowers, and I have to say that the wisteria flowers have a feeling of romance that no other blossom can compete with.

Just now I was realizing that as much as I’ve been admiring the blossoms, I don’t think I have ever smelled the fragrance of a wisteria. I’m going to have to rectify that soon! I hope that they smell yummy!

I’m pretty sure that I mentioned that I’m planning to redecorate the master bedroom at some point in time, and that I’m trying to do it in a “Harley Davidson” theme to make my hubby happy!

I’m thinking about trying to make the curtains fit the theme somehow. I’ve already told my hubby that he has to help me with the curtain rods – I told him that they somehow have to have a “motorcycle feel” to them, which means that they will have to be chrome and will have to suggest either motorcyle exhaust pipes or motorcycle handlebars. I’ll be curious to see what he can come up with!

I’m not quite sure what I will sew to hang off of the curtain rods, I’m thinking about something made from denim squares cut from old blue jeans, or maybe something made from faux leather, or maybe something from very silvery-chromy shiny fabric. Maybe try to make some tie-backs that look like motorcycle chains…….

Suggestions welcome!!!!!

I looked up and was very surprised to see he had shaved his head!

I didn’t know what to say, so I asked him “what inspired you to shave your head?”

He said “I’m balding anyway, I just wanted to see how I will look when I’m completely bald!”

I hope he grows it back!

Acne appears to be a lifelong struggle for the human race!

According to the website www.acne.com there are six different types of acne. There are two types of non-inflammatory acne, and four types of inflammatory acne.

This website is a vast storage vessel of information about what causes acne, what DOESN’T cause acne, acne prevention, and offers some treatment options, one of which is the well-known Proactive product. I was interested to see that none of the treatment options given included toothpaste, which actually is my favorite treatment!

When I was a teenager, my parents always told me that eating pizza, and french fries, and chocolate were to blame for my acne. That was even accepted “common knowledge” and was published in local newspapers at the time.

Modern medicine debunks that theory and says that none of those foods cause acne. There is an interesting article about that on the acne.com website. Having said that, I find that every single time that I eat a piece of chocolate, the very next day I get a pimple!

I could not believe it! I went to take a drink of my crystal light, and the rim of the glass touched the bridge of my nose – OUCH! What the heck? Looking in the mirror, I saw the tell-tale bump of a pimple being born. Oh, give me a break! I’m in my fifties for crying out loud! I’m too old for pimples! Acne should be a thing of the long ago past!

When I got home from work I put a dab of toothpaste on the pimple and let it stay there overnight. When I got up in the morning, the pimple had come to a head and broke open when I washed my face.
