Tried a new restaurant last night

by Mary Anne

My hubby and I went out to eat at Town & Country Restaurant in Falmouth  last night.  We’ve been wanting to go there for a while, and just had not gotten around to it.  Last night was the night!

We did not know that they had an “all you can eat buffet” before we went there.  We checked it out and were not impressed, so we ordered off the menu.  They have a Dinner for Two special of  T-bone steaks, veggies, salad and dessert, and that is what we ordered.  The restaurant was clean, the service was good, and so was the food.  I imagine we’ll eat there again!

I love freebies

by Mary Anne

In this economy, bargainscan be found in some of the least expected places. I enjoy going to trade shows; I can remember the first trade shows I’ve ever been to was in an armory in Washington DC. My parents took me there because they were promoting their business and I got the chance to walk around and see all of the other exhibits. That was a big deal to me and I really enjoyed it a lot. I can remember one of the exhibits involved a demonstration of some kind of product that I think was actually used for insulation. The demonstration was being done by a beautiful lady and she poured two liquids into a can and then poured some into a styrofoam cup. The contents expanded into a foam that hardened very quickly. The demonstrator let me have the cup to keep, and I was thrilled. Ever since then I’ve been a sucker for going to a trade show and getting freebies!

I’ve noticed that when I go to a trade show of some kind, I often find that a lot of the companies there are giving away free promotional products that they hope will endear you to their company. I have received a lot of pens, calculators, visors, highlighters, tote bags, cup cozies and water bottles just by going to trade shows.

My parents run a small shipping business and they love to give me their freebies whenever they get a new shipment in. They’ve given me a travel sewing/mending kit, a bottle opener, a jar opener “round tuit” and lots of pens. I’ve suggested to them that they start using eco friendly promotional items the next time that they are going to be handing out freebies. I like to support businesses that are making an attempt to reduce their carbon footprint.

I took karate classes when I was younger

by Mary Anne

I think it is important for people to learn self-defense.  When I was in my early twenties, there were two separate occasions when I “survived” a rape attempt.  I managed to talk my way out of them, so I was very lucky.

Those attempts got me to realize that if I was NOT so lucky, that I could have actually been raped and/or killed, so I took karate classes to learn how to defend myself if push came to shove.

I’m really glad that I took karate classes, and I encourage everyone else to take some kind of self-defense class.  They are well worth the effort.

Don’t taste the rainbow!

by Mary Anne

In the local Sunday newspaper, in the “strange but true” section, I was shocked to read of the misfortune of a New Haven Connecticut eighth grade honors student.

This honor student, who happened to be the vice-president of his class, bought a bag of Skittles candy from a classmate in school.  This was a violation of the district-wide wellness policy implemented in 2003!  Somebody apparently did not like this poor kid, and turned him in to the “authorities” for buying contraband candy.

This poor kid got suspended from school, was barred from attending an honors dinner, and was stripped of his title of class vice-president!

All because he wanted to “taste the rainbow!”

I think the punishment is a little bit harsh for this crime, don’t you?

I love diamonds!

by Mary Anne

I know I’ve told you in previous posts how much I love jewelry!  I love cheap jewelry, but I also love REAL diamonds if they are tasteful and classic enough to survive ever-changing trends and fashions.   I have several diamond earring sets, and several diamond rings.  I wear all of them a lot, some on a daily basis!  I firmly believe that diamonds “go” with EVERYTHING!
