All my life I have been fascinated with angels. I love to look at any pictures that show angels. I find them totally inspiring, even the archangels. This little picture is just so cute – I love how fluffy the wings are – like the down on baby ducks – because the wings are on children.
Little Angels
by Mary AnneEmery Boards
by Mary AnneMany years ago, I received a very practical gift for my birthday: a manicure set. It was a cute little pink leather case with pink elastic bands holding all the implements in place. It had tiny pointed scissors, both large and small clippers, and a variety of tools with white pearl handles. The only problem is that I had no idea how to use any of those tools – no one ever taught me or showed me what to do with them.
It wasn’t until just a few years ago that I got brave and decided to go to one of the little nail salons and ask for a manicure. I watched carefully while the attendant took care of my fingernails and then painted them a beautiful red rose color with polish.
What I learned from that salon experience was that all those tools did have a purpose and a use, and that a modern emery board is a wonderful thing. After I saw how she used a couple of different emery boards on my nails, I went to Walgreens and bought a pack of emery boards just like what she used. I love those emery boards!
Down in Dothan
by Mary AnneMost people have never heard of Dothan, Alabama. It is way down in the farthest southeast corner of the state, just above the Florida state line, and just a stone’s throw away from the border with Georgia, to the east. I first heard of Dothan because a good friend of mine married a guy from Dothan. He was a fireman for the City of Dothan and knew a lot of medical stuff, so he would go out with the Rescue Squad and drive the ambulance, too. He told me that home security Dothan was becoming a serious issue for the people who lived just outside of town, and he had dozens of stories to share with us about Rescue Squad calls to help people who were victims of crime and accidents out on those country roads.
My girlfriend says she met him one night when they were just hanging around the fire station. Some of the guys were watching Direct TV and a couple of them were playing the board game, Monopoly. When she and her BFF walked in, the guys playing Monopoly invited the girls to join the game. She says the game lasted 8 hours before her future hubby won that game and she fell in love with him that night. Not because he won the game, but because they had 8 wonderful hours together, laughing and teasing each other, telling stories and getting to know each.
i think that is the loveliest love story I’ve ever heard.
Too Needy
by Mary AnneModernizing the Hand Dryers
by Mary AnneToday I learned about Dyson hand dryers and how the same people who revolutionized the world of vacuum cleaners have found a way to blow out air. Dyson now uses technology to cool the air with airblades instead of fans, and to dry hands using airblade hand dryers.
Reading about the history of the Dyson company and its founder and primary inventor, James Dyson, I learned a lot. For example, James Dyson started the whole thing when he first bought a Hoover vacuum and was unhappy with its performance. He took that as a challenge to find a better way to make modern vacuums, and his first invention was manufactured and sold by a Japanese company. He used the money made from the sale of the first vacuum to start his own company in England, his home country, 1993. But with legal problems in England, he ended up moving the company to Malaysia in 2002. At that time they were making both vacuum cleaners and washing machines. Eventually the washing machines were discontinued due to lack of profitability, even though they worked with a unique design of two tubs working in opposite directions.
Now the Dyson Company makes various models of vacuums as well as air multipliers and air blade hand dryers for commercial use.
