All politicians wear masks – not just for Halloween, either!

by Mary Anne

I feel that all politicians wear masks all of the time.

You can’t trust any of them to fulfill their promises.  They’ll say just about anything they feel they need to say to make their constituents that they happen to be with at the moment happy.  I think that maybe we should force all of them to take lie detector tests before we allow them to run for office and see just how many lies they plan to tell in order to get elected!  And I think we should make them take lie detector tests twice a year after they get elected to ask them important questions about their integrity, and if they lie, they should be kicked out of office!

Expanding circle

by Mary Anne

My son is addicted to video games.  He has been for probably the last twenty-one years.  Whenever people complain to me about his addiction, all I can say is that there is nothing that I can do about it (never has been!) and that there are a lot worse things that someone could be addicted to!  Whenever I go into his room, I see him playing some kind of video game and if I need some kind of help with something I just hope that he is not on one of his online games where is playing with a team.

If he IS online and playing with a team, the chances of getting his help are pretty slim because his “team” is waiting for him.  It reminds me of a commercial that seems to be on TV a lot lately about a kid playing a game with his friends and his father and they are all in different locations.  Isn’t the advancing technology amazing?!

Disappearing Temp Files

by Mary Anne

Last night I was working on a document that I downloaded from an email attachment. I spent about 3 hours on this MS Word document and saved it before shutting down the computer and going to bed. So I wanted to finish that document tonight and when I turned on the computer, that document doesn’t show up anywhere. I have no idea where it is. I know I saved it and I’m so frustrated! My brother says I must have saved it in the temp file directory But I don’t know where that is or how to get to it. Grrrrr! I spent a lot of time on that and don’t remember everything I did to be able to do it over. Sometimes I really hate this computer!

Data Floating Overhead

by Mary Anne

I used to look up in the sky for clouds, but now we are computing in the clouds and it means a whole different thing. I have had a hard time understanding what all the fuss is about when you start talking about how you store your files on the internet instead of on your computer. I guess the main thing about the reason they say you are cloud computing is because like the clouds in the sky, you can see them and you know they are there, but you can’t actually touch them with your fingers. So an online data room is a room that doesn’t really exist where you put file cabinets and tables or shelves – it is just a part of the internet where you stuff is – you can’t touch it with your fingers but you can see it and get to it by computer.

So if you have a lot of important information and you store it in the cloud computing method, that means a lot of people can get to it and see it, with your permission, of course. So if you were buying a business, all the legal parties involved in buying that business could get the information from your cloud. The lawyers for the buyer and the seller, the real estate brokers, the accountants, the lenders would perform their acquisition due diligence with a simple log in and pass code that you provide.

I think it is great ha businesses can do so much with computers now and that they will be computing in the clouds as a fast and efficient way to share information. They can also get localization services online, which helps when you are doing business internationally. After all, this is the World Wide Web!

Mother knows best

This girl has an awesome voice! I think she should be on one of the big prize talent shows. When I first watched this video I thought she might be lip-syncing, but I’m pretty convinced that she isn’t. I wish my voice was that great!
