A walk down memory lane

by Mary Anne

The heat wave sure had a big impact on Facebook this past weekend.  Seems like there were a lot of people in the “I grew up in Arlington” page sharing memories of the schools that they went to, the restaurants that are no longer there, and about the stores that have been renovated and turned into different stores.

All that chatter got me to remembering the “good ol’ days” of high school.  The days of the kids playing pranks by putting alarm clocks in their lockers all set to go off at the same time, the football games where I sat with my friends in the drill team and band on the cold aluminum bleachers and snuggled under a wool blanket to keep warm. Those were some fun times.

One of the things that surprised me the last time I went into the local high school for an adult education course was how the hallways were lined with so many really extra small lockers; I can’t even imagine any kid being able to put a backpack or boots or a lunch box inside them! Truth be told, they don’t even look large enough to hang a coat! I think that is a sad commentary on how over-crowded today’s schools must be, for the size of the lockers to be that small!

My hubby is going to join the Masons

by Mary Anne

One of my brothers is a member of the Masons, and I have been encouraging my hubby to join the Masons too.  Since we are new to the area I think that joining an organization like that is a good way to meet new people, make new friends, and start a social life.  So my hubby has been talking to my brother about joining the Masons, at my encouragement.  I hope he does it!

Do you speak geek?

by Mary Anne

Sometimes I feel about as obsolete and trendy as an old washboard.  When I first started to learn how to do more with my computer and the Internet, and started to become a blogger I had to learn more about computers and the Internet than I thought I’d ever want to learn!  I really didn’t want to have to tax my brain with having to find a web hosting service to park my domain, and I certainly didn’t want to figure out the differences between managed hosting and colocation.

Thankfully my sister and nephew were right there with me, every step of the way, holding my hand (figuratively speaking – they are 800 miles away!) and telling me what to do and how do do it.  I am slowly learning the language of geek.  In the meantime, thanks N & J & S for all the help you have been in the past, the present, and the future!
