Bait and switch

by Mary Anne

I would like to think that companies know that bait and switch is illegal and would take care not to practice it. And yet when my hubby took the truck to the local tire company to get new tires, that is exactly what they tried to do. He was quoted one price for the new tires and he agreed to buy them. They took the truck into the garage and went ahead and mounted and balanced the tires.

When he was presented with the bill, it was for almost double the amount he was quoted! When he questioned the amount, they claimed that the price he was quoted was a mistake and that they could not possibly sell the tires to him for that price. So what would you do in a situation like that? I’ll tell you what he did; he told them to take the tires back off of the truck and put the old tires back on it. They sure didn’t like hearing that! But that’s exactly what happened.

So many things to learn

by Mary Anne

My brother called and told me that he was going to be in town yesterday, attending a technology trade show and invited me to join him there and eat dinner together afterwards.  He thought I might like to learn a little bit about the kinds of things that he does in his computer based business.   I’ve always found the computer technology interesting, but a little bit overwhelming.  To be honest, listening to people talk about topics like managed hosting and colocation makes me feel rather stupid.

Don’t get me wrong; I think having a variety of web hosting options is very important and I think that it is great that the ability to customize these kinds of services to meet the needs of so many different people and businesses and services is absolutely amazing!  It’s just that my poor brain can’t keep up with all of the changes nowadays – the advances seem to be coming in at such a fast pace that by the time I learn something I think that the information is obsolete!  It gets overwhelming, you know?

Bought an Irobot Roomba

by Mary Anne

Yesterday I bought a new Roomba vacuum cleaner.  When I got home I was too tired to open it up; I plan to do that today!  I am looking forward to having a Roomba to vacuum my floors for me!  I’ve been tired of doing it myself for quite a while now!  I’ve had a Roomba before, and I liked it a lot.  This new one is supposed to be a better one than the one I had before, so I’m anxious to see how it does.

Universal dress code

by Mary Anne

Today I was noticing how many people were wearing medical uniforms around town.  Seemed as if everywhere I looked, people were wearing doctors scrubs or nursing scrubs.  I’ve heard that the medical services field was booming as the baby boomer generation was aging, but I have to admit that it almost seems as if the scrubs are turning into a universal dress code of some kind.

One thing is for sure, in this town the wholesale scrubs business would make a fortune!  I can understand the practicality of wearing scrubs – they are very comfortable to wear during the summer.  But during the winter I’d want to be wearing something a whole lot warmer!  Seems to me that all of the scrubs I always see are not meant to keep anyone warm at all.   I wonder if anyone has thought about making warmer scrubs.

I like free

by Mary Anne

I really like it when I get free stuff that I can actually use. So when I got a coupon from Staples for a free ream of printer paper I was sure to swing by and get it while I could. I also picked up some paper clips and some CD-R disks that I’ve been needing for the past month or so. I had to swing past there on my way to Rite Aid anyway. so I managed to work it into my errand running without expending any more gas than necessary. I like free!
