My son, hubby, and I went to a new all you can eat buffet restaurant last night. It was pretty good, and we will probably go there again. The highlight of the evening, though, was the sighting of a HUGE turtle in the parking lot! This thing was bigger than my dog! It drew quite a crowd. Apparently the turtle belongs to the pet store that is located in the same shopping mall as the restaurant, and they decided to let it go for a walk! I’ve never seen a turtle that big outside of a zoo-like atmosphere! I don’t know if it is for sale or not, I didn’t ask.
Sweet Holidays
by Mary AnneGuest post by my good friend Dean Barlow
One of the biggest reasons that I love the Holiday season is that my wife gets very busy in the kitchen baking and cooking all kinds of great things that we don’t often get any other time of the year. She bakes a fantastic lemon bread that makes my mouth water just to think about it! And she makes this really great mock peanut brittle out of graham crackers that is out of this world!
I’m the first to admit that I have a sweet tooth, so when she starts making all of these goodies I feel like a kid in a candy shoppe! Naturally she gives a lot of the goodies away as gifts to neighbors and friends, but she always makes sure we have plenty here at home to enjoy as well! I’m blessed to have a good natured, good looking wife that can cook too! (Hey honey, can I have another piece of needums now?)
Long and anxious drive
by Mary AnneOn my way home from work the road was blockaded by the fire department. I could see black smoke filling the sky in the distance. The smoke was coming from the direction of my house! The firemen would not let me through and told me that I had to take the detour around the lake to get home. Assuming, of course, that it was not my house that was on fire!
It took me a whole hour to detour around the lake to get home. And that was a very long hour’s drive – because of the rolling hills there is virtually no cell phone service around the lake, so I couldn’t call anyone to find out any details of the fire!
I was so relieved when I finally got to my road that I found that my road was open to traffic, so I could get home. And my house was safe and sound. I don’t know whose house was on fire, but for now I’m glad it wasn’t mine!
Shopping for the clients
by Mary AnneHi. My name is Mary Anne and I’m a shopaholic. Seriously, I love to shop. Fortunately I have a client that pays me to shop for him, so I can get my shopping fix without spending any of my own money! So I can get the thrill of the bargain and have no buyer’s remorse the next day.
Last week Jack gave me a “wish list” that his daughter gave him for her birthday. My mission is to try to find the different items on the list and give Jack some price quotes on the list. I thought that the hardest items to find were going to be the *new* bcbg pumice silk sequin tunic top xs and the 1 madison tab waist peacoat but I was really pleasantly surprised how easy the Internet has made shopping for Jack’s daughter! There’s a great shopping website called become.com that makes online shopping a breeze. I could spend hours browsing their web pages, just dreaming of buying all of the great things that I found there.
Did I mention that I love to shop?
Our dog and cat went to the vet today
by Mary AnneThe house is awfully quiet without them; the dog needed to be neutered, and the cat needed his teeth cleaned and a tumor removed. It is going to cost a huge amount of money, but it needed to be done. The dog had some kind of strange medical condition that could lead to prostate cancer if we didn’t have him neutered soon. And, I remember how nuts he went the last time the neighbor’s dog went into heat; the poor guy was going crazy trying to go be with her!
We have a second dog, who is still here in the house with us. She doesn’t quite know what to make of the house being all hers for a change! I think she’s a little bit anxious. I’ll be glad when the other two are back home again. The vet said we can bring them home tomorrow.
