Yesterday, for the very first time in my life, I noticed what appears to be age spots on my arms! I’m not quite sure how I feel about that! Well, actually, I know I was a little bit upset! I’ve had graying hair for a long time, and I’ve made peace with the few wrinkles on my face, but age spots?! I really wasn’t expecting them for at least another ten years or so!
Merry Christmas!
by Mary AnneWhat a wonderful Christmas we had this year! We went to my mother-in-laws house for a wonderful big turkey dinner with all of the trimmings. I brought the sweet potatoes and homemade cranberry relish. I also brought my own “take-out” containers to bring home all the leftovers we were going to be dividing up to take home. I don’t think I’ll have to go grocery shopping for the next few days, we have plenty of leftover yummies!
My grandfather taught shop
by Mary AnneMy (now deceased) grandfather was born in England in 1900. In 1920, he brought his wife (my now deceased grandmother) to the USA, where they settled on a piece of land, built their house and raised my father and aunt, both of which were born in the house that my grandparents built.
During the World Wars, my grandfather was recruited by the local school system to teach shop. I never did find out why he did not go to war, but I suspect it was because he had a bad heart.
When we would go over to his house to visit, I was always fascinated by the wrought iron end tables he had made. He never did let me go into his workshop, but I did so love those end tables! When he died, I asked if I could have them, but my aunt had claimed them for herself. Oh well…..
I suspect it is because of those wrought iron tables that my grandfather made, I’ve always been attracted to wrought iron home accessories! Whenever I see something that looks like it is made of wrought iron I am tempted to buy it! It is a struggle to pass it up!
My favorite Christmas song
by Mary AnneThe first time I heard this song it was on a Garth Brooks Christmas CD that I bought and I listened to it at home while I was decorating the tree. I LOVE this song. I love the toe-tapping hand clapping beat.
People can be so rude!
by Mary AnneI am a member of a local Red Hatter’s club. For those of you who might not know what that is, it is a social club made up of women who are at least 50 years old. Yes, I AM that old, amazing, isn’t it!
The last gathering we had was a pot luck dinner at the “queen’s” house, and we were all supposed to bring something prepared from one of the special Red Hatter’s cookbooks.
During the meal, several people expressed concern about the ingredients used in some of the recipes. They indicated that they were allergic to some particular ingredients.
I was horrified that some of the ladies were so rude as to ask very personal probing questions as to EXACTLY what the allergic reactions were. I think that if someone says that they can’t eat or drink a certain thing, people should be polite enough to just accept it and not ask for all the “gory details.”
