The dreaded Black Friday

by Mary Anne

Just got back from the mall and what was probably one of the wildest shopping days I have ever had. So many people were at the mall and Wal-Mart we had to park almost a half mile away at both places. The checkout lines were so long I got to read one of the magazine on the rack all the way through.

Next year I am waiting till Saturday to do my shopping, because going to stores when there are so many people just plain sucks. I’m all for saving money and having fun shopping, but this was not fun to me.  and when I got home I heard on the news about the terrible incident at the Wal-Mart in New York where the shoppers stormed the doors and trampled an employee to death!  How scary!  I’m staying home next year for sure!

That time of the year again

by Mary Anne

Have been waiting for Thanksgiving to roll around this year. My family gets together every year and all the women cook enough food for an army and all the men get together and tell stories of this years events. The kids run around and play games, and the newest editions to the family all are seen.

A lot of good times around here these coming days, and I have a lot to be thankful for, that’s for sure. I am dreading the Friday to come though, more commonly known as “Black Friday,” because everyone in America seems to go out and shop this day to get in on all the deals the stores have to start off the Christmas selling season.

Anyways, I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving.

My sister wants to start a new business

by Mary Anne

About three months ago, my sister told me that she wants to start a new business with her hubby.  They have been participating in selling in flea markets for many years, and think that they have found a niche that would be successful in a retail environment.

The biggest problem in starting any business is financing.  It is hard to start up a business, you need capital.   The best way to have capital is to have rich relatives that are willing to “front” you money, but that is NOT the case with our family!  Those that have the money are unwilling to part with it.

So, that leaves Small Business Loans.  Most banks require detailed business plans, tax returns, and lots of documentation.  I took a lot of business courses in college, and I have run a small business myself, and I know what a lot of difficult work that is!

Incredible rechargeable flashlight

by Mary Anne

My brother loves to collect gadgets.  He is always spending his disposable income on the latest and greatest gadget he can find.  He came over today to show off his new flashlight that he just bought over the Internet.  This new flashlight that he bought is a LED flashlight that is rechargeable, requires no batteries, and runs for an hour on just one charge.
What a showoff he is!

T2T – empty chicken can

I thought I’d share with you one of my T2T projects in greater detail.  This is a picture of the supplies that I used to turn an empty chicken can into a pretty trinket box.  Not pictured are the Plaid Folk Art Outdoor Paints, and the glue that I used.

This is a picture of the chicken can, after I was finished with it.

This is a picture of the inside of the jewelry box.  It is lined with a velveteen fabric.  It came out very pretty!  I gave it as a gift to my sister-in-law, and she was thrilled with it!  I’ve had several requests from friends/relatives to make some for them!
