During the past couple of weeks our junk mail index has risen sharply. It seems that the vast majority of the mail we have been getting is sales circulars, catalogs for Christmas items, or promotions for political campaigns. What a waste of paper this is! It all goes into the trash, mostly not even looked at. There isn’t anyplace near where I live that I can take stuff like this to recycle, and it is sad to think of it all going to the dump.
Hubby loved the craft store!
by Mary AnneUsually when we go into a craft store, my hubby waits for me impatiently to buy the supplies that I want to get. This time, we found a section that sells model cars that you build and paint yourself. Bingo! One of my hubby’s favorite hobbies! We used the 40% off coupon to buy one for him. I guess I won’t have to be dragging him, kicking and screaming to the craft store in the future! He’ll be begging me to take him! LOLOL!
Outlet store vs discount store
by Mary AnneI was reading an article on Businessweek’s website that was talking about how a lot of the big “snob” companies like Sak’s Fifth avenue is opening more outlet stores, in the hopes that they will attract more customers to the outlet store’s lower prices. The article confused me a little bit because I had read many years ago that “outlet stores” were not necessarily a “discount store” and that when people shop at outlet stores looking for a “bargain” they usually are not really getting a “bargain.” What they are often getting are closeouts, over-runs, or factory seconds.
After I had learned that “outlet stores” were really not “discount” stores I pretty much avoided them. So now I’m wondering if “outlet” stores are changing their strategy and really ARE offering bargains now!
Craft store shopping today
by Mary AnneToday I have to run errands in a city that is over an hour’s drive away. Normally I run errands closer to home, but hubby has a doctor’s appointment, and I’m going with him. There are some Michael’s Arts & Crafts stores and some AC Moore craft stores near his doctor’s office, and we plan to stop into both of them to do a little bit of craft supply shopping. We got coupons in the Sunday papers for 40% off any one item for both of the stores, and we plan to use them!
We don’t live near either of those stores, so it is a major “big deal” to me when I get the chance to swing by one on the rare occasions that we are driving by one.
Sun shield for my car
by Mary AnneWhen we bought my Lumina I told my hubby that one of the first things I wanted to buy for it was a quality sun shield for the windshield. I bought a “universal” sun shield at my local big box discount department store but it does not fit well and keeps falling down. But this week I finally smartened up and realized that I can not just put my visors down to help keep it in place, but I can take them out of their little holder brackets and put them down at an angle, and that works perfectly!
