Fajitas

by Mary Anne

We wanted something quick and easy for dinner, so Hubby got busy in the kitchen and started slicing up some sweet onions and green peppers. Then he marinated a cheap steak that I found at the grocery store. Can you believe they had sirloin steak for $1.99 a pound, while hamburger was $3.59 a pound?

While he was dealing with the steak, I made some seasoned rice and corn on the cob. then I scorched some tortillas to be warm and soft for the fajitas when the steak came off the grill.

When all was said and done, we enjoyed a fantastic meal of fajitas and the whole thing cost less than $8 for the both of us together. Try to beat that price at a restaurant!

Trying to help my son find a job

by Mary Anne

My oldest son wants to be a reporter, and he has the credentials and skills to do that.  I don’t understand why he is having such a tough time landing a reporter job!  We see ads on the Internet, and in the local papers and he replies to the ads, and he never even gets an interview!  The process is very frustrating to both of us because I want him to have a job, ANY job, and he won’t take ANY job.  He will take a reporter job or stay unemployed.  Period.  He has gotten so discouraged that I think he has stopped looking, which is not a good thing!

My sister suggested that I look on an employment website called The Career Network to find out if there are any reporter jobs in our area currently being advertised.  And if I found any, then I could show the openings to my son and he could apply for them.  The website is very easy to use, when you type in the URL http://careernetworkjobs.com/ you are taken to a simple page where you type in the job title you want to look for and the location that you want to work.  So I typed in “reporter” and ”Virginia” and came up with no results at all.  Very discouraging!

Just to test the website’s functionality then I typed in ”receptionist” and “Virginia” and came up with lots of job openings, so it appears that the website works.  So, what can I say, I am discouraged that my son is having such a hard time landing the job of his dreams!

Cookie Monster is eating Fruit!!!!!

by Mary Anne

My son and I were watching the June 19 episode of The Colbert Report on the Internet earlier today because my son had seen the episode and saw Sesame Street’s Cookie Monster on the show.  Remembering how much I enjoyed watching Sesame Street with him some twenty-odd years ago, he looked it up on the Comedy Channel’s website so I could see it too.

I was shocked to see that Cookie Monster has learned to eat healthier foods in recent years – he now loves fruit too!  It was a cute very cut episode.

Going to an Elks Picnic – not!

by Mary Anne

Well my hubby informed me a few minutes ago that we are going to an Elks club picnic that starts at 4pm, and it is over an hour’s drive away, so I guess I need to change my clothes, brush my teeth and get ready to go!  Nothing like short notice to go somewhere!  I don’t even know WHAT to wear!  I guess blue jeans, but a decent shirt should be all right.  I wish I’d had more notice, I don’t even know if I can make my hair look decent!

********Later********

Well, After a few minutes of getting ready to go,  I asked my hubby if he is ready to go and now he tells me we’re not going; he’s tired and wants to take a nap!  So, I guess we’re not going!

Strong Coffee

by Mary Anne

All my life I have been a tea drinker. My grandparents came to America from London, England, after all!

Well, hubby likes coffee, the stronger the better. So today I surprised him with a bag of ground Starbucks Columbian coffee. He was so excited!
