Happy Birthday J

by Mary Anne

First of all, I am not old enough to have two sons in their 20′s. Well maybe physically I am, but mentally, NO! I am NOT ready to be a Grandma yet. I may be semi-retired, but I’m young at heart!

So after that little disclaimer above, I want to take this moment to wish my youngest son a very happy birthday. He’s off at college, but I’m sure he will be out celebrating with his friends tonight. Be safe, dear son, but have lots of fun! I love you lots!

Dead skunks – a sign of spring!

by Mary Anne

Well, I guess spring is here, whether the groundhog said it would be here or not!  The roads are littered with dead skunks, having just come out of hibernation.  Poor little critters are out looking for some food, minding their own business and whammo!  I guess they think that just because they smell so bad that they are invincible!

What I Read

by Mary Anne

I read the online papers in various cities every morning while I sip my cup of tea and try to wake up. It is the best part of the day for me – I’m up first and the house is quiet for about 30 minutes, so I can click through a dozen sites without any interrutions or distractions.

I read these newspapers every morning and have them bookmarked:

  • The Washington Post
  • The San Francisco Chronicle
  • The Chicago Tribune
  • The New York Times

My hubby likes all-you-can-eat buffets

by Mary Anne

. . and I prefer ordering off the menu.

When we go out to eat, he votes for the “all you can eat” buffet restaurants. He likes the wide variety of foods to pick and choose from.

I enjoy that too, but I usually prefer going to a restaurant that I can order off of the menu. I usually can’t eat the entire meal, and like to bring leftovers home to eat the following day.

I have found that the all-you-can-eat buffets cost more money than ordering off of the menu, and you can’t take leftovers home from the buffet.

Long Winter Predicted

by Mary Anne

Well, the groundhog saw his shadow this morning, so according to the folklore we are facing another 6 weeks of winter.

I wouldn’t mind so much if the price of heating oil hadn’t gone up through the roof this year. We are frugal with our thermostat settings and try to conserve energy, but it has been really cold in the Valley and we’ve had to fill the oil tank twice already.

So I’m going to get busy making some draft preventers to lay along the bottoms of the doors, and maybe make some heavier curtains to hang over the windows on the north side of the house. Anything I can do to help keep the house warm inside and keep the cold out!
